Battle Ready pt. 1

Proverbs 12:1 (ESV)

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.

EVICT EMOTION & WELCOME WISDOM

Proverbs 19:20 (ESV)

Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.

The root of discipline is self control and it’s close sibling is wisdom!

• Self control + wisdom = Discipline

•Wisdom is essential because wisdom is foresight. The ability to see beyond today and its emotion. Hindsight is common we are not common!

1 Peter 2:9–12 (ESV)

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 11 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. 12 Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

A submitted heart yields to the sound counsel & the Holy Spirit who produces in us self control. From this submitted position discipline becomes our decision then the emotion follows.

To follow Jesus means we are to become disciples in every part of life. Discipleship is a learning of discipline. The root of disciple is discipline.

So…

WE CHOOSE OUR FOUNDATION

Matthew 7:24–27 (ESV)

Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

DISCIPLINE IS ABOUT WHO I WANT TO BECOME OVER TIME & MOTIVATION IS ABOUT HOW I FEEL RIGHT NOW. ONE IS A FIRM FOUNDATION TO BUILD ON THE OTHER IS A ROAD BEING ERODED BY THE TIDE OF EMOTION.

Every day, we stand at the crossroads between the pain of self-discipline now or the pain of discipline later for bad decisions. The path we choose daily determines our foundation and defines not just our actions, but our character

DISCIPLINE IS UNAPPEALING BECAUSE THE REWARD IS DELAYED. BUT WISDOM PLAYS THE LONG GAME!

WE NEED TO DEFINE WHO WE WANT TO BE

Define who you want to become spiritually, physically, and emotionally

WAITING TO FEEL MOTIVATED LEADS TO WILD INCONSISTENCY. HAVING THE DISCIPLINE TO MAKE A DAILY DECISION ON WHO YOU WANT TO BE IS A FREEDOM ONLY THE MINORITY GET TO SEE.

Hebrews 12:11 (NLT)

No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening, it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.
