THERE IS SPEECH THAT BUILDS BY FAITH OR TEARS DOWN BECAUSE OF OUR FLESH - RARELY IS THERE SPEECH THAT IS IDLE

James 3:2–12 (ESV)

For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body. 3 If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. 4 Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. 5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. 10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? 12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water.

OUR HEARTS NEED TO BE SET IN THE NEVER CHANGING ETERNAL WORD OF GOD. OUT OF THAT HEART - OUR MOUTHS WILL SPEAK LIFE GIVING WORDS TO OURSELVES. WHEN WE SPEAK LIFE TO OURSELVES THEN THE OVERFLOW WILL BE LIFE SPOKEN TO THOSE AROUND US.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

Death is the Hebrew word ma-wet (MAVET):

Death; Dying; Deadly Disease; Epidemic; Plague; Destruction

Life is the Hebrew word HAY (HI):

Life; lifetime; lifespan; joy of life; maintenance

Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me! FALSE

The way it should be:
Sticks and stones may break my bone but words can break my soul - which kills me from the inside & paralyzes me and my self image, potential, and purpose.

THE FRUIT OF OUR LIFE COMES FROM OUR TONGUE, AND THE TONGUE SPEAKS FROM THE ROOT OF OUR HEART!

FOLLOWING JESUS MEANS HEART TRANSFORMATION. HEART TRANSFORMATION MEANS A COMPLETE RESHAPING OF THE SPEECH WE PRODUCE.

HOW DO WE CONTROL OUR SPEECH?!

CONTROL WHAT IS SOWN

Colossians 3:8–17 (ESV)

But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. 11 Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.

12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Something can't dwell if it never enters!

• What are letting enter in our own lives?

• What are we allowing to enter our kids?

• What are allowing to enter our homes behind doors?

The tongue is the most powerful member of the body. It has the power to influence and shape all three parts of our human experience. Like with all power there are those who can use it for good or those who will use it for bad.

The difference is the seeds under the surface and in the heart that shape the motive of heart and direct the tongue!

WHEN WE MEET WITH GOD DAILY VIA WORSHIP AND HIS WORD WE REPLACE THE SEEDS OF THE ENEMY WITH THE SEEDS OF OUR FATHER. SEEDS OF DEATH GET REMOVED BEFORE THEY GERMINATE AND WE WATER THE SEEDS OF FAITH, FAVOR, HOPE, AND GODLINESS WHEN WE MEET WITH HIM DAILY!
