The Lie:

I DON'T REALLY NEED THE HOLY SPIRIT

John 14:15-18 - "15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”

GIVE UP THE CONTROLS

Romans 8:5-6 - "Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” (NIV)

How we live life is important

   • We are lead by our thought life

       • We have to give the controls of our thoughts to the Holy Spirit

           • What controls our thoughts controls our life

Flesh = sinful nature - the flesh, denotes mere human nature, the earthly nature of man apart from divine influence, and therefore prone to sin and opposed to God

What does the person led by the flesh think on?

Galatians 5:19–21 (ESV)

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21 - "Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries” (NKJV)

Galatians 5:19-21 - "repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival; uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions; ugly parodies of community. I could go on.” (MSG)

What does the person led by the Holy Spirit think on?

Galatians 5:16;22-23 - "let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves… 22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! (NLT)

WHAT CONTROLS YOUR THOUGHT LIFE CONTROLS YOUR LIFE

You have to give control of every part of your life to the Holy Spirit because...

HE HELPS IN OUR WEAKNESS

Romans 8:26 - "And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.” (NLT)

If we live life without the Holy Spirit we are limited

   • We are limited only to our strengths

       • Our weakness are a handicap without the Holy Spirit - but with Him our weakness are strengths because He is all powerful

           • The person who lives life lead by the Holy Spirit is strong when they are weak

2 Corinthians 12:9 - "[My] power is being perfected[and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness.” (AMP)

THE PERSON WHO GIVES CONTROL OF THEIR LIFE TO THE HOLY SPIRIT OPERATES IN STRENGTH

The Holy Spirit says your weakness is my time to show out

Our weaknesses are now our strengths as christians so...

NO FEAR ONLY FAMILY

Romans 8:14-15 - "For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. 15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves.” (NLT)

We don’t have a spirit of fear, we have a steady father

   • We are children of a faithful Father

       • My dad could beat up your dad

When we give control of our lives to the Holy Spirit we show ourselves to be a child of God. We don’t need to fear because God is faithful. When we give control of everyday and every part of our lives to the Holy Spirit we are never in a place of weakness. We live in full strength because our weakness sets the stage for a powerful, steady, ever faithful Father. Therefore we don’t need to live in our own power but live by the leading of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit leads by God’s word, so we can’t just read it we need to live it.
